Geo-Graf will typically use three different non-intrusive geophysical technologies to locate and map historic features in order to facilitate and maximize your dig locations.  We can quickly and cost-effectively point archeologists to possible finds while eliminating other areas and the fruitless dig. This service is especially valuable at sites where digging is prohibited or limited. Geo-Graf has also performed GPR surveys at several dozen of cemeteries in order to locate unmarked and unknown graves and burial plots.  Project deliverables include an Investigation Report and CAD-based map.

Geo-Graf has completed GPR surveys at numerous historic sites, battlefields, and residences. In 1997, Geo-Graf completed an extensive GPR survey in Jamestown, VA as part of the rediscovery of the original 1607 Fort, the first successful, permanent settlement in the US. Geo-Graf was able to delineate and track an undiscovered section of the original palisade fort wall remnant. Our work provided the on-site archeological team crucial data on the suspected shape, alignment and size of the Fort enabling the dig to proceed with success. In addition, Geo-Graf also identified the presence of several human graves located along the outside of the wall. Our work at Jamestown was filmed for a documentary produced at that time. Our work at other historic sites has as been captured by local and regional newspapers providing much needed publicity to these often neglected and underappreciated sites.

Use of "remote sensing" techniques in the archeological field is often viewed as an attempt to undermine "true" archeology.  Nothing can be further from the truth. Our goal is to provided the archeologist with another tool and data set. In these economy times where funding is almost nonexistent, having a "Geo-Graf" is  one of the most efficient and cost-effective ways to manage your project. Contact us today to discuss your site.
