Geo-Graf, Inc. is an independent small business established in 1989 by Fred L. Graf, P.E. Geo-Graf has been setting the industry standard for accuracy, integrity, and professionalism for over 20 years. We have performed over 2,200 investigations using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). We've worked large-scale, high-profile projects at the US Capitol Building, Nuclear Power Plants, and even assisted in the discovery of the Original Fort in Jamestown, Virginia. Our expertise is applying GPR technologies across a broad spectrum of industries.

GPR is not a new technology. It was originally developed for military applications over forty years ago. Relegated to academic pursuits, it wasn't until the 1990's that GPR started to emerge as a commercially viable technology. As a senior research engineer for the Philadelphia Electric Company, Fred Graf initially researched and developed a technique for using vertical field gradiometers (magnetics) to locate natural gas pipeline leaks. Intrigued with the emerging radar technology, he began studying its feasibility for leak locating.  He established a working relationship with the GPR equipment manufacturer and with funding from the Gas Research Institute went on to develop a technique for the delineation of pipeline gas leaks using GPR. His findings were published and in 1986 he was a featured presenter at a global GPR conference in China.

Recognizing a potential market for commercial GPR applications, in 1989 Mr. Graf founded Geo-Graf. With his intimate knowledge of GPR and Magnetics, Geo-Graf effectively kick-started the market for commercial GPR surveys.

In addition to gas leak pinpointing, Geo-Graf pioneered applications for the use of GPR in the detection of underground storage tanks, utility locating, sinkhole assessments, detection of gas, water, oil and sewer pipeline leaks, as well as contaminant plume mapping. Now after two decades use of GPR for these applications is commonplace.

Since 1991, Jay Graf has worked with his father, serving as a field technician and gaining real-world experience in the use of GPR and Magnetics. Upon graduation in 1995 with a BS in Chemical Engineering, Jay weighed his options and decided to join the family business full time. With industry related field experience, an engineering background, and technical sophistication; he quickly brought Geo-Graf up to speed by incorporating CAD mapping and other computer-based technologies into each project. With the addition of RF and EM geophysical techniques, Jay went on to establish unique and propriety data collection methods enabling Geo-Graf to expand its services in new directions, all while maintaining accuracy and reliability our clients count on. Now with more than 20 years experience with GPR, Jay Graf has become one the foremost experts in its use and application.

In 2003, Fred handed the company reigns to his son. Presently, in its 22nd year of operation, Jay Graf and Geo-Graf look to continue the level of excellence, professionalism, and quality service into the new millennium.
